A Brief History of The Employers' Organisation of Mzanzi
The Organisation was formally registered in May 1997, following the initiative of several employers in Nelspruit who united to establish an Employers’ Organisation. Initially, it operated under the name Employers’ Organisation of Mpumalanga (EOM), with its constitution providing for representation exclusively within the province of Mpumalanga.
As membership expanded beyond provincial boundaries, the Organisation amended its constitution to extend representation nationally. In line with this broader mandate, the Registrar of Labour Relations required a change of name to reflect its widened scope.
On 16 November 2011, the Organisation adopted the name Employers’ Organisation of Mzanzi. The term Mzanzi, a colloquial expression for South Africa, was chosen to signify its national reach while allowing the Organisation to retain the established acronym, EOM.
